How much compensation can I get for a delayed or cancelled Ireland flight?
You can get Ireland delayed or cancelled flight compensation if:
- your flight was delayed by more than 3 hours upon arrival or
- if the cancellation of your Ireland flight was announced less than 14 days before departure. Note that the airline must also be responsible for the flight disruption.
The amount of compensation for flight delays and cancellations in Ireland depends on the distance of your flight:
Distance of your flight | Compensation |
---|---|
Flights shorter than 1,500 km | Get £220 per passenger |
Flight between 1,500 and 3,500 km | Get £350 per passenger |
Flights of over 1,500 kilometres within the EU | Get £350 per passenger |
Flights of over 3,500 kilometres outside of the EU | Get £520 per passenger |
Remember that if your flight is delayed or cancelled, the airline owes you a special assistance called the 'right to care'. This includes food and beverage vouchers, communication, transportation and if needed hotels. You can claim those vouchers directly at the airline’s service desk at the airport. If the airline doesn’t provide you with vouchers, you can buy what you need and keep the receipts — the airline will have to reimburse you.

Ask for the refund of your flight to or from Ireland
When your Ireland flight is cancelled, you can also get the full refund of your ticket. This is different from the compensation. Ireland flight compensation in the event of a cancelled flight is offered by the airline to the passengers when they are at fault for the cancellation and that they need to compensate passengers. However, the refund is something that all passengers can get, as long as they did not fly with the airline in the end.
Take note that if you received no different flight option, you are still entitled to a ticket refund.

Claim nowWere you offered a voucher for your cancelled Ireland flight? Here’s what you should do.
In general, we advise against accepting travel vouchers from airlines.
This is because accepting a travel voucher binds you to book future flights on the same airline. Furthermore, most airlines have a deadline for redeeming a voucher.
If the airline declares bankruptcy and you lose your money, you may find it difficult to convert your voucher into cash.

Bad weather conditions, such as thick fog, heavy rain, or thunderstorms.

Political circumstances, such as a terrorist attack or general security risk due to political unrest.
Natural disasters, including volcanic eruptions and hurricanes.
A collision between the aircraft and birds or other foreign objects.
An ill or unruly passenger.
Flight delays caused by the airport staff, such as extraordinarily long queues to security checks.
