How much compensation can I get for a delayed or cancelled flight to Singapore?
Singapore is not part of Europe, therefore you are only eligible for Singapore delayed or cancelled flight compensation if your flight departed from Europe and/or was with a European airline. Delayed or cancelled flight compensation is only possible to obtain if your flight was delayed by more than 3 hours upon arrival or if the cancellation of your Singapore flight was announced fewer than 14 days before departure. Please note that the airline has to also be responsible for the flight disruption.
If your Singapore flight was delayed by 3 hours or more or cancelled within 14 days before departure, you might be eligible for flight compensation. The amount of flight compensation is calculated per passenger and determined by the length of your flight.
Distance of your flight | Compensation |
---|---|
Flights shorter than 1,500 km | Get £220 per passenger |
Flight between 1,500 and 3,500 km | Get £350 per passenger |
Flights of over 1,500 kilometres within the EU | Get £350 per passenger |
Flights of over 3,500 kilometres outside of the EU | Get £520 per passenger |
Also keep in mind that if your flight is delayed or cancelled, the airline legally has to provide you with special assistance. This entails food and beverage vouchers, communication, transportation and, if absolutely necessary, hotels. You can claim those vouchers right at the airline’s service desk in the airport. If the airline doesn’t provide you with vouchers, you can still purchase what you need and make sure to keep the receipts — the airline will have to refund you regardless.
Flight compensation for a delayed flight from/to Singapore — check if you're eligible now!
If your Singapore flight was delayed, you may be able to claim flight compensation under the EU regulations. If your flight from Europe to Singapore was delayed, regardless of which airline you were flying with, you may be entitled to up to £520 in flight compensation per passenger. Although, since Singapore is not part of Europe, you can only claim flight compensation for flights leaving from a European airport and/or operated by a European airline.
To be eligible for Singapore flight compensation, you must meet the following criteria:
The length of the delay: your Singapore flight arrived more than 3 hours later than expected
The responsibility of the airline: you can only claim Singapore flight compensation if the delay was caused by the airline. (The airline is not required to compensate passengers for delays caused by "Extraordinary Circumstances"; more information is below.)
The compensation amount varies depending on the flight distance: longer flights result in higher compensation.

Claim flight compensation for your cancelled flight from Singapore
If your Singapore flight is cancelled, you may be eligible for up to £520 in flight compensation per passenger if the following conditions are met:
Your Singapore flight was cancelled less than 14 days before the departure, AND,
The airline was at fault for the cancellation (for additional details on when airlines can deny compensation to passengers, see the "Extraordinary Circumstances" section of this page).
Cancellation notice | Alternative flight | Compensation |
---|---|---|
Fewer than 7 days in advance | Departs 1h+ earlier or arrived 2h+ later | Yes |
7-14 days in advance | Departs 2h+ earlier or arrived 4h+ later | Yes |
Fewer than 14 days in advance | No alternative flight offered | Yes + refund |
If your flight was cancelled because of an industrial action at the airport (ex. a riot or strike) you unfortunately won’t be able to claim Singapore flight cancellation compensation because these incidents are classified under extraordinary circumstances.
Ask for the refund of your flight from Singapore
When your Singapore flight is cancelled, you are also able to get the full refund of your ticket. This is not the same as the compensation. Singapore flight compensation in the event of a cancelled flight is offered by the airline to the passengers when they are at fault for the cancellation and that they must compensate passengers. However, the refund is something that all passengers can get, as long as they end up not flying with the airline.
You can get the full refund of your ticket if your flight to Singapore was cancelled and:
The airline did not offer you a replacement flight, OR,
The airline offered you another flight, but you declined.

Claim nowWere you offered a voucher for your cancelled flight from Singapore? Here’s what you should do.
Airlines can choose to offer passengers travel vouchers rather than cash refunds when a delayed or cancelled flight occurs. Here are some of the reasons why we strongly advise against taking such vouchers:
You must book a new flight with the same airline using the travel voucher. Furthermore, the airline may impose a time limit for redeeming the voucher.
You may find it hard to get your money back if the airline goes bankrupt.
Flight delayed or cancelled to Singapore, am I also entitled to flight compensation?
Yes, under certain circumstances. Because Singapore is not a member of the European Union, European regulations (EU261) only apply to flights from the EU and/or operated by European airlines.
You cannot claim flight compensation if you flew from Singapore on a non-EU airline according to European regulations. The table below contains additional information.
Type of flight | Example | Compensation |
---|---|---|
Flying with a British carrier | Tokyo to London with British Airways | Yes |
Flying with a EU carrier | Amsterdam to London with KLM | Yes |
Flying with a non-UK/non-EU carrier from the UK | London to Tokyo with Japan Airlines | Yes |
Flying with a non-UK/non-EU carrier to the UK | Tokyo to London with Japan Airlines | No |
Extraordinary circumstances disrupted my Singapore flight — can the airline really deny my compensation claim?
The airline can refuse to compensate you even if your flight was cancelled or delayed for more than 3 hours. Extraordinary circumstances are used to deny flight compensation to passengers when a third party or unforeseen event, rather than the airline, is to blame for the delay or cancellation.
Here are a few examples of extraordinary circumstances:
Bad weather conditions, such as thick fog, heavy rain, or thunderstorms.
A strike, most often specifically within the aviation industry (for example, a strike of air traffic control workers at a specific airport).
However, a strike of the airline's crew is not considered an extraordinary circumstance!
Political circumstances, such as a terrorist attack or general security risk due to political unrest.
Natural disasters, including volcanic eruptions and hurricanes.
A collision between the aircraft and birds or other foreign objects.
An ill or unruly passenger.
Flight delays caused by the airport staff, such as extraordinarily long queues to security checks.
