Man takes 4500 Km -long trek through China

Friday, March 21, 2014

His journey was long and exhausting. When Christoph Rehage decided to go to China on the 9th of November 2007, he did not expect to face as many problems and fears as he did. Little under one year later he arrived at his final destination, having walked a distance of more than 4500 km.

The adventurer walked from Beijing to Ürümgi and documented his journey with a camera. As a result, we can not only witness the stunning landscapes he encountered, but the change in his appearance throughout the journey as well. Rehage made most of the trip by foot, but we also see him on the occasional boat or airplane. These moments allowed him to put his head back in the right place to continue with the gruelling march.

Christopher was asked by many people what his state of mind was during the journey. He answered: "It was just the way it would be on any normal day. Sometimes you think. Sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you worry about passports, dangers, pains, relatives and loved ones, and at other times your steps are light and you sing songs in the desert. Sometimes it is boring. And sometimes you feel at peace."

When asked what finally made him decide to quit his journey after nearly 4500 km, Christoph responded: "I wanted to gain back my life. I had to regain control over myself, eliminate the inner boss that was telling me what to do. A lot of people look at the video thinking 'I want to be free like that guy!' – but they don’t realize that I was driven by something, and maybe I was losing control over it."
