British tourist expelled from Sri Lanka for Buddha tattoo
Tuesday, April 22, 2014
A British tourist was arrested in Sri Lanka on Tuesday, because she had a Buddha tattoo on her arm.
When the woman arrived at the international airport in Colombo, the police saw the image of Buddha and a lotus flower on her arm. The authorities in Sri Lanka saw this tattoo as blasphemy, so the traveller was arrested. She was then immediately brought before a judge, who decided the tourist had to leave the country immediately.
The majority of the population in Sri Lanka is Buddhist.
