Amsterdam airport evacuated after bomb scare
Wednesday, April 13, 2016
Police evacuated part of Schiphol airport late last night in response to a “suspicious situation” which appeared to be a bomb scare. The incident was said to have been caused by an anonymous call to the police. One man was arrested and the bomb squad was called in to sweep the area.
The security alert was however shortly thereafter lifted as no explosives were detected.
According to witnesses the situation was handled in a relatively calm manner. This incident comes at a time of heightened security, which has swept across many European countries in response to last month's terrorist attacks in Brussels.
Flights were resumed to normal activity on Wednesday morning and no major delays are expected.
