General Strikes to affect flights to France and Portugal this week
Wednesday, May 18, 2016
Starting this Thursday 19th May, Portuguese ground staff will be staging a walkout in protest of the ongoing job instability and planned layoffs.
At the same time another wave of strikes in France will see air traffic controllers and ground staff take industrial action against the country’s planned changes to employments laws.
Although the full impact remains to be seen, both strikes could lead to severe flight delays and cancellations in France and Portugal respectively. Passengers have been advised to verify their flights with the respective airlines or travel agencies.
Unfortunately strikes such as these are considered as extraordinary circumstances and are therefore deemed as beyond the airlines’ control. Passengers affected by industrial action are therefore not entitled to compensation.
