Norwegian launches new flights from the UK
Wednesday, June 8, 2016
Budget carrier Norwegian has launched additional flights from the UK to the US, in light of the upcoming summer travel season. After having recently launched direct flights to Boston, this will be the airline's seventh flight route, set to depart from London Gatwick to Oakland, California.
According to the airline, Oakland was an obvious choice, following research that indicated the port city as a popular destination for both business and leisure travellers. This new route opens up low-cost travel options to the West Coast with a great connection to other top destinations such as San Francisco, only 22 miles away.
Flights depart from Gatwick three times a week (Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays). Approximate flight duration is 11 hours, with ticket prices starting from £330 return.
Aggressive Growth
This is certainly not the only development we are to expect from Norwegian. The airline has announced ambitious growth plans, including the expansion of its Gatwick base, as well as dozens of additional flight routes. A new direct service to Las Vegas is planned for October this year.
Chief executive, Bjørn Kjos expressed his satisfaction: “On intercontinental routes in particular, we are experiencing increasingly strong demand as we continue to launch new routes and destinations, not least between London Gatwick and the US.”
