Madrid: It is common for passengers to arrive late for a flight, but onlookers at Adolfo Suarez Madrid Barajas airport were in for a shock when on prospective passenger tried taking things to the next level by jumping on to the runway once his gate had closed.
Extraordinary footage emerged of a an unnamed man jumping off a jet bridge in an attempt to catch a plane that was about to depart.
He bypassed security measures at the airport before being intercepted by ground staff.
A member of the ground crew filmed in the incident and it was later uploaded onto facebook by the Workers' Commissions trade union.
The Ryanair flight, that he was expecting to board, was already away from the terminal moving along the tarmac when the late arrival attempted to stop it in its path by jumping 10 feet from the jet bridge.
In normal circumstances when you miss a flight through no fault of your own you're entitled to compensation. In cases like this the unnamed passenger will not be and is likely to be liable for a hefty fine.
Ryanair commented stating that “it is an issue for Madrid airport police.”
