Suspected cyber attack grounds United Airlines flights
Friday, October 14, 2016
Passengers around the world have been left frustrated by a suspected cyber attack that has delayed dozens of United Airlines flights.
At 8.15 GMT, it was announced by United that ‘the system issue has been resolved, any delayed flights are now resuming’
This is not the first example of delays and cancellations being caused by airline system issues.
The world's biggest carrier - Delta airlines - suffered a worldwide system outage that results in hundreds of cancelled flights and thousands more delayed.
Delta denied that they had fallen victim to a cyber hack but cyber experts remain sceptical.
As recently as last month British Airways reported long delays after ‘a problem with the check in system.
Airlines will be concerned by this recent spate of system issues as they rely on computer systems for all aspects of their service. From issuing boarding cards and check- in’s to loading the plane with cargo.
Despite the uncertainty that has been caused by these system issues, there has been no suggestion that the safety of flying has been compromised.
