BBC research exposes London Gatwick (LGW) as having the most delays out of all the UK airports. According to the report, flights leaving LGW are on average delayed by 27 minutes. The carrier with the most delays? That would be easyJet with an average delay of 24 minutes. The analysis was made in conjunction with data provided by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for flights leaving from a UK airport during June to August in the last two years.

Top 10 worst offenders ranked for length of average flight delay:

Aer Lingus

Both London Gatwick and easyJet cite them having the most flights to and from Europe as the reason why they topped the list. A spokesperson for Gatwick states: “repeated strike action by French, Greek, Spanish and Italian air traffic controllers and airport employees, prolonged bad weather, and heavily congested airspace above parts of Europe and London”, all interfere with the airline’s aspired punctuality. However, both the airline and airport have offered assurances that they are looking into amending their services.
