Finnair cabin crew strike — what is happening?
Finnair cabin crew is striking over better working conditions and better wages. According to the airline, Finnair operations have been highly impacted by COVID-19 at first and then by the war in Ukraine which led to fewer Finnair flights being operated (to and from Russia but also flights to Asia flying above Russia).
Finnair’s management and cabin crew have been trying to agree on the crew’s wages but have not come to an understanding. Finnair management threatened to hire external staff if an agreement wasn’t reached, which would lead to around 450 Finnair cabin crew members being fired.
As a result, the Finnair cabin crew announced a strike on November 20th and November 21st, resulting in hundreds of cancelled Finnair flights.
